The methods of using aromatherapy are varied and depend on personal situations, as well as the reason for the aromatherapy treatment. Aromatherapy can be used for everything from digestive ailments to simple stress relief, so the methods used to employ the essential oils can vary depending upon the specific need.
Aromatherapy Method- Diffusion
Diffusion simply fills a room with the scent of the essential oils being used. This is a good method for simple mood lifting or relaxation and can be used at home or at the office. This can be done using a diffuser or aromatherapy candles.
Aromatherapy Method- Steam Vapor
Steam vapor is created using essential oils in a warmer. The steam that is released is inhaled and beneficial to an individual person. The steam vapor method is good before bed for relaxation or for clearing congestion and sinus problems. Another way that the steam vapor method can be used is by adding a few drops of essential oil to bath water.
Aromatherapy Method- Ingestion
Ingestion of some essential oils can provide the benefits of aromatherapy from the inside. Chamomile for example makes an excellent tea to aid digestion and settle the stomach.
Aromatherapy Method- Massage
Massage using essential oils surrounds the person with the beneficial scent of the oils, and also allows the oils to penetrate the skin and work through contact as well to relieve pain and create a relaxed state.
Aromatherapy Method- Scented Items
The scented items method provides a way that a person can have the benefits of aromatherapy quick and easy wherever they may be. Placing a few drops of essential oil on a handkerchief and storing it in a plastic bag in a purse or pocket provides a quick aromatherapy session by simply removing the handkerchief and breathing in the scent. A small bottle of an aromatherapy hand lotion also provides the benefits of aromatherapy quickly and in almost any situation.
Aromatherapy provides many benefits from breathing ailments to pain relief. There are several ways to include the aromatherapy methods into everyday life, and aromatherapy can often be used in conjunction with modern medicine.
An ancient holistic treatment aromatherapy using essential oils has been used to treat many internal and external ailments over the centuries.
